Two differently equipped Crimson Moon players in online co-op

Build crafting

Crimson Moon has no traditional classes

Your role is assembled from equipment and abilities, then reshaped by temporary choices during each hunt. Here is how every confirmed build component fits together.

The absence of classes answers an important pre-release question: you are not locked into a named warrior, mage, support, or rogue path. The Nephilim’s combat identity comes from the tools selected at Sanctus Clypeus and the choices made inside Gildenarch. Equipment creates a durable foundation; the run adds temporary adaptation.

Six build components

What shapes your playstyle

ComponentRole in the buildPersistence
WeaponsSet the core attack style and carry Weapon Arts.Permanent when purified/unlocked.
ArmorSupports different loadouts and playstyles.Permanent equipment.
TrinketsAdd effects that refine the starting loadout.Permanent equipment.
Weapon ArtsPowerful abilities associated with each weapon.Tied to the weapon system.
AngelAdds another powerful tool selected before a hunt.Pre-hunt choice; full unlock rules pending.
BoonsTemporary damage, healing, survival, and synergy effects.Current run only.

Gear defines the starting build

Weapons, armor, and trinkets are selected before entering a mission. Every weapon includes Weapon Arts that open different ways to approach combat. Armor sets and individual gear pieces support playstyles rather than filling a universal linear upgrade track. Trinkets provide another place to add specialized effects.

Because equipment can be purified, stored in the arsenal, and upgraded, build crafting expands across multiple hunts. One successful run can add a new permanent weapon or armor option; a later run can test that foundation with a different Angel or temporary Boon combination.

Boons evolve the build inside a run

Nexus Gates present Boon choices as players move deeper into Gildenarch. Confirmed categories include increased damage, restored health, improved survivability, and effects that form stronger combinations. A Boon is not a permanent class node. It is a run-level decision that asks the player to respond to the current mission and available options.

This is why a fixed class label would be misleading. A durable weapon-and-armor setup can become a high-damage route in one run and a survival-focused route in another. The build is partly planned and partly improvised.

Angels add a pre-hunt power choice

An Angel is chosen before each hunt and adds another powerful tool to the build. The official overview confirms the system but has not yet published a complete Angel roster, unlock path, cooldown table, or launch balance. The shared Wiki Hub will list confirmed Angels together until individual names generate enough demand and evidence for useful standalone pages.

Co-op builds should complement each other

Two-player co-op allows partners to coordinate loadouts and Boons. One player might emphasize durability or recovery while the other pursues aggressive Weapon Art combinations, but official material does not impose tank, healer, and damage roles. The useful principle is complementary function, not mandatory class composition.

The shared Life Pool makes survival choices relevant to both players. A selfish glass-cannon route can consume a team resource, while healing or defensive Boons may preserve attempts. Dynamic enemy composition can also make identical builds less flexible than a pair covering different situations.

Frequently asked

Build and class FAQ

Does Crimson Moon have classes?

No. ProbablyMonsters explicitly says there are no traditional character classes. Your playstyle is shaped by gear, Weapon Arts, Boons, Nexus Gate choices, and the Angel selected before a hunt.

What makes a Crimson Moon build?

A starting build combines a weapon, armor, trinkets, the Weapon Arts attached to weapons, and a selected Angel. During a hunt, temporary Boons from Nexus Gates evolve that foundation.

Are Boons permanent?

Boons are temporary effects for the current hunt. Permanent growth comes from purified equipment, unlocked gear, and upgrades.

Can co-op players make complementary builds?

Yes. The official build explanation encourages partners to coordinate loadouts and complementary Boons so the two builds create synergies.
